Simply Rocks - Sedimentary, Igneous & Metamorphic Rocks

Simply Rocks is a collection of Sedimetary, Igneous & Metamorphic rocks.

Includes 9 specimens, a pouch, and a descriptive card to help you with identification of your specimens.

Sedimentary rocks are formed near the surface of the Earth by wind, water and weather.  Erosion causes littles bits of sand or soil, or pieces of rocks and shells to move over the Earth.  They finally settle together and harden into layers.  The types of sedimentary rocks that may be included in your kit are: Alabaster, Coquina, Sandstone, and Siltstone.

Igneous rocks are formed when magma or molten rock from deep inside the Earth cools.  Sometimes magma is forced to the surface of the Earth by pressure inside.  The pressure causes volcanoes to erupt which produces lava.  The types of igneous rocks that may be included in your kit are: Lava/Scoria, Porphyry, Obsidian, and Pumice.

Metamorphic rocks are formed when extreme heat, pressure and major shifting of the Earth cause changes in sedimentary or igneous rocks.  They often look like they have been folded or squeezed.  The types of metamorphic rocks that may be included in your kit are: Gneiss, Horneblende, Marble, and Schist.
