The ND96 Moon Filter is used to reduce glare and irradiation in bright objects. Color Filters significantly enhance visual and photographic image contrast of the Moon and planets. Each filter threads into the barrel of any Meade eyepiece, and into the barrels of virtually all other eyepiece brands as well. Meade filters are available in 12 colors for lunar and planetary applications, and in Neutral Density as a lunar glare-reduction filter. The ND96 Moon Filter transmits light uniformly across the entire visual spectrum. This serves as an excellent filter to reduce glare and irradiation when observing the Moon with any telescope of 4" aperture and larger. The ND96 filter may also be employed in the splitting of close double stars where one of the binary pair significantly exceeds the other in brightness.
Series 4000 Photo-Visual ND 96 Moon Filter for use with 1.25" threaded barrel eyepieces (0.9 Density, 13% transmission). Meade Series 4000 filters have a large 26mm clear aperture and are manufactured from the purest crown optical glass, dyed-in-the-mass (not "color coated"). Each filter's glass is anti-reflective coated on both sides and is mounted in a machined aluminum cell with the Wratten No. of the filter marked on the side of the cell. Filters may be piggybacked, or stacked, to achieve selective filtration of the visual color spectrum.
